Charlie the Dog and I backpacked to a tiny Forest Service cabin in the mountains south of town last night. An idyllic spot, gorgeous views on the way, and even some snow on the trail!

I had a fine time, and as you might guess, Charlie had an absolute blast. He was a little skeptical about the cabin ... but man, that dog is born to hike.

And now, we're both ready for a nap. :)

  1. Looks like a wonderful time, gorgeous scenery. Thanks so much for sharing. How did the backpack work?

  2. Thanks! And I totally lucked out with the backpack ... it's a Mystery Ranch pack, made here in Bozeman, and it's outstanding. (I actually won the thing in a local contest over on the-social-networking-site-that-must-not-be-named.)

  3. Hey, I just recently won something over at F* too! My prize was 10 sessions at a trampoline gym ;-). Sounds like your prize was better ;-).

  4. Ooooo! I'm not so sure about that ... I would have absolutely loved the trampolene sessions. :)

  5. Yep, the jump time is going to be fun....still have the backpack envy, tho. ;-).

  6. Your dog is great. We're thinking he has some lab in him.....something about his face....

  7. BTW, I reshared your post to my husband...and somehow that reshared it to public! I hope you don't mind. Darned beta software!

  8. Mark, were there wheels on that backpack?

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Erica: Tiny jet packs, actually. Wheels are so passé in the 21st century.

  10. @Teresa: No worries about the reshare, at all. I figure that anything I post to the web is open to the world, and anyhow I took it as a compliment. :)

As for Charlie ... yeah, he's definitely great! His lineage, though, is a total mystery. I'm guessing there's some Australian Shepherd in there, and there could very well be some lab, too ... after all, labs are the quintessential Montana dog! I might have to send off for one of those doggie DNA tests one of these days.

  11. Knowing your sentiments about wheeled luggage, I should've guessed!

  12. Well I'll think twice before sharing. I'll just have my husband circle you. He loves Montana as much as I do, if not more. My other lab Cody (RIP) was a Montana lab. Huge dog, gorgeous, handsome head. I'll have to post a pic.

  13. Yes, do! And expect to see an astounding number of dog photos from this end. :)

  14. Great! but fair warning! We literally have thousands of dog pics. Oh, for privacy reasons because I didn't want Zuckerberg to know much about me, I signed up on Facebook as my dog! (Darla Atkinson) so you can only imagine how many dog pics I have there! ;-).

  15. Well, as they say ... bring it on! ;-)

  16. looks like you had a fun trip... noooooo snow..

  17. Nick Bell , you should have seen Charlie in that snow! After the long, hot hike, he was thrilled to death to play in it. :)
