  1. The problem is that word "promotion." in teh second section. Which lets them use (and edit) anything we post for advertizing. They may not intend to use it that way, but they can.

  2. So Mark, should we not post photography anymore in fear they will use it? I don't like my images being peddled around the web...

  3. David A : Honestly, I'm not worried in the least ... I actually think our photos are far safer here than at a place like flikr, where unscrupulous webmasters and such have a long habit of photo-mining.

I obviously don't agree with the skeptics' analysis of the G+ user agreement -- I think those people are being deliberately alarmist, rather than realistic. But even if the most paranoid interpretation of the license were true, and Google tried reusing someone's creative postings even once, think what would happen: there'd be such a firestorm of public outrage that Google's market position would be horrifically damaged. They're entire business plan could be crippled. Google knows that as well as anyone else, and that's the greatest, most powerful protection any of us can have.

Besides, G+ is already sharing over a billion items every day ... what are the odds that a data miner would even see a post by little ol' you or me? We all tend to forget what insignificant little dustspecks we are in the big world of the Internet.

So I'm going to keep posting away. In fact, I'm gradually moving pics over here from FB, and deleting albums over there.

  4. Right. In other news, I wish I could get more people over here but I can't seem to. It's not much a social network if there is no friends to socialzie with. :(

  5. G+ took my Chinhuahua and now he's a Doberman

  6. Theodore Stauffer : My dog will be happy to hear that!

David A : Yeah, it'll be interesting to see whether G+ gains mainstream acceptance, or not. I have a number of friends over here already, but they're mostly the people who never bought into Facebook ... and for G+ to thrive, the FB people will need to be convinced that this is a better place. I'm betting that many of them will figure that out, but that it will take a while.

Other FB people are so Internet-phobic overall that they'll probably never tackle anything new, but I'd actually be OK with leaving a few of them behind. :) And FB's American user base already started to decline before G+ even arrived ... so it's pretty clearly not the social network of the future.
