Installed the Lion upgrade on my iMac this morning, though not without difficulty ... the download crashed the App Store application! My initial thoughts are mixed. Safari seems much improved, and the left/right swipe action there is brilliant. I'm already used to the "reversed" scrolling, but I re-enabled the always-visible scroll bar ... it makes no sense at all to have that disappear on a desktop device. Launchpad is useless for anyone with more than a handful of apps, and since I don't use Spaces I don't really like the new look of Mission Control. Mail seems more solid, though I went back to the classic UI there. There's a lot of serious ugliness in the UI, especially for a design-conscious company like Apple. The Finder and Mail went way too far towards the monochrome look ... the font choices, spacing, and graphic layout all suck. On the other hand, Apple went too far in the other direction in the Address Book and iCal, sacrificing usability and
where'd ya put 'em? mine are not at godaddy but i do think they need a new home.
ReplyDeleteSusan Dennis I went with NameCheap, and I've been pretty happy with them so far. Right now they're offering the transfer and an added year of registration for $6.99 ... the coupon code for that is "SOPAsucks". :)
ReplyDeleteWho are you using?

ReplyDeleteGood grief, how many domain names do you have??? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI've avoided GoDaddy based on complaints I've read about, even though they support NASCAR heavily.
Scott Murdock Only a dozen of so, and some are for the business. In this day and age, that's hardly any at all. :)
ReplyDeleteThere's a long, long list of reasons to avoid GoDaddy, and virtually no reasons to stick with them ... I'm actually a little embarrassed that I waited this long to dump them.
Does NameCheap support things like integrated wordpress blogs? I use GD both for domain and hosting. If I'm going to move it's going to have to be fairly easy given my business and such.
ReplyDeleteDan Brewer I would assume the hosting services of the two firms are comparable, but not having used them I can't say for sure. My sense is that for consumer accounts, the major hosting companies have pretty equal and generic offerings.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andreas. I still have a couple of low-traffic sites stuck on MobileMe, so I need to find a new hosting service. I'll give Dreamhost a look.
