ReplyDeleteThanks! And yep, I went up there today. It's the perfect time of year to visit Avalanche - mainly because there's no mob of summer tourists yet!

ReplyDeleteSure thing ... no problem at all. You can note that the trail has been cleared of downed trees, and that the route is snow-free till a few hundred yards below the lake. The trail section from the foot to the head of the lake is still snow-covered.
ReplyDeleteTrail clearing has yet to begin on most other trails, and many west-side trails have a lot of deadfall this year -- over 100 trees down across the Apgar Lookout trail, for example. Other than Avalanche, the Boundary Trail heading upstream from Park Headquarters is the other good early-season hike choice right now.
